Learners and employers have told us that they find huge value in our resources and would like to access them outside of formal qualifications. In 2017 we started to make that easy for them.
By increasing our non-funded revenue through offering products of value to learners, employers and providers, we can remain the trusted skills partner for our employers and help more learners succeed throughout the life of their careers.

Phase 1
The Commercial team are focused on two of the 2020 strategy objectives: skills innovators and learners for life.
Led by a commercial manager, the team had a successful year incubating, testing and developing new non-funded products and services. New systems and processes were developed for content, pricing, learner onboarding and assessment.
With foundations firmly in place, Competenz achieved $1.56 million of commercial revenue focused on the sale of content to industry training providers (ITPs) and private training establishments (PTEs), Microlearning, Gateway and the Department of Corrections. This was an increase of 44% on 2016.
Microlearning
Our suite of Microlearning courses and workshops were launched in early 2017 designed for people who want to build skills to meet the changing needs of their industry or are not in a position to take on a whole qualification.
There are two broad types of Microlearning: unit standard based courses that have been ‘unbundled’ from an existing qualification; and non-unit standard based courses where the learner achieves the skill but no credits.
They can work as a stand-alone programme of learning or alongside the more in-depth or technical qualifications.
